This year, Fort Worth Inc. has named Opal Lee, “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” as the Person of the Year for her significant influence and impact in the community.

Opal Lee has worked for more than 40 years to commemorate Juneteenth as a national holiday and has fought to ensure equality for all Americans. Even at 94, this determined Texan still plays an integral role in bringing national awareness to Juneteenth.
